Bio:

Eugenio Anessi-Pessina graduated from Bocconi University’s Management programme in 1987. His major was Public Management. He then received his MA (1992) and PhD (1997) in Managerial Science and Applied Economics from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
Currently, he is full professor of public management at the Catholic University in Milan, Italy. In addition, he is senior fellow at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania (Department of Health Care Systems), director of Cerismas (a research centre on health-care management), and editor of Azienda Pubblica (a leading Italian-language public management journal).
His research interests include public-sector budgeting and accounting, health-care management, and management control in government and health-care organisations

Bio:

Vincenzo Atella is Associate Professor of Economics at the University of Rome “Tor Vergata” where he teaches Macroeconomics and courses in Applied Health Economics at graduate and post graduate level. He is also adjunct associate of the Center for Health Policy at Stanford where he has been visiting professor in different occasions.
Currently, he is Scientific Director of the Farmafactoring Foundation and chief economist of the Italian Association of General Practitionners (Società Italiana di Medicina Generale – SIMG).
In the recent past he served as member of the “Strategic Evaluation Committee” of the Italian Drug Agency (AIFA), as senior economist in the Italian Regional Agency for Health Care Services, as advisor for the National Institute of Health, as member of the Italian Committee for Drug Price appointed by the Ministry of Treasury and as consultant for WHO (http://www.who.int/en/) and World Bank. He has been member of the International Committee of Experts advising IQWiG (the German Agency for Health Care) for setting national guidelines for Economic Evaluation.
Prof. Atella has also been coordinator of large European Research Networks like TECH Europe and EU-FEM. For his research activity he has received funding from the European Science Foundation, the European Commission and the Ministry of Education in Italy.
His most recent research activity has focused on poverty, income distribution and health economics. In this last field his research deals with the introduction of new technologies into the health sector, the impact of different co-payment systems on pharmaceutical decision making by physicians and on drug consumption by patients, and with health related income inequalities. The results of this research activity have been published on several international refereed journals as well books.

Bio:

Silvia Balia – graduated in Political Science at the University of Cagliari (Italy) in 2002, she obtained a MSc degree in Economics and Quantitative Methods from the University of Rome – Tor Vergata in 2003 and a PhD in Economics from the University of York (UK) in 2008. She is associate professor in Economic Policy at the Department of Economics and Business, University of Cagliari. She is a researcher at the Centre for North South Economic Research (CRENoS, Universities of Cagliari and Sassari), and an external affiliate at the Health Econometrics and Data Group (University of York). She teaches courses in the field of Applied Economics and Microeconometrics. Her works, mainly focused on inequalities in health and lifestyles and on the demand for long-term care, are published in the Journal of Health Economics, the Journal of the Royal Statistical Society. Series A, and Health Economics. Currently, her research interests are on joint consumption and retirement decisions in couples, labour market effects of informal care in men and women, regional variation in healthcare and patient mobility, innovation and health outcomes in developing countries. She serves as reviewer for many economics journal and for the Ministry of Education for projects evaluation.

Helen Banks (F) has been a researcher at CERGAS since October 2012. Major interests include data analysis, preparation, management and programming for pan-European and Italian research projects to evaluate health costs, resources, outcomes and the use of data to improve the organization and delivery of health care and services using administrative data from public and private health care organizations. Recent projects (Bridge Health, EuroHOPE, MedtecHTA) cover a number of therapeutic areas and medical devices, outcomes research and pharmacoeconomics, with a particular emphasis on big data, care pathways and integrated care.

Bio:

Elio Borgonovi is full professor of Public Management at the Policy Analysis and Public Management Department at Bocconi University. In 1978 established CERGAS (Research Center on Health Care Management and Social Services), of which he was Director until 2003 and is currently President. He also launched the Public Management and Policy Department/Division at the SDA (School of Management) Bocconi of which he was Dean form 1997 to 2002. He was Vice-President of AIDEA (the Italian Academy of Management), President of ASOFR (the Italian Association of School Of Management), member of EFMD (European Foundation for Management Development) and IRSPM (International Research Society in Public Management) boards and of EQUIS (European Quality Improvement System) awarding body. In 2011 was awarded the Ph.D. Honoris causa by Paul Cezanne-Marseille-Aix en Provence University, in 2013 he got the best paper recognition of AOM Health Care Division and in 2015 was the winner of the Elsevier Atlas Award. Currently he is member of the most important national and international network in the field of Public Administration, Health Care, not for profit organization Management. He is author and co-author of more than 300 papers and books.

Elenka Brenna holds a degree in Economics from the Catholic University in Milan, an M.Sc. in Health Economics from the University of York (UK) and a PHD in Economics from the University of Trento. Her prevalent interests are related to the Economics of Health and Health care, specifically, health care systems, ageing and LTC, health care policies and evaluation of welfare systems. She authored a number of publications both in Italian and international journals. She has been joining different projects, as researcher and as coordinator, for both public (Ministry of Health, regional Authorities, European Union) and private organizations. She is a lecturer of Health Economics and Microeconomics at Catholic University in Milan. She is member of IHEA (International Health Economics Association) and HESG (Health Economics Study Group) and she is member of the executive committee of AIES (Italian Association of Health Economics).

Dr. Brusati holds a Ph.D. in Public Management from Bocconi University (Milan, Italy) and is currently Associate Professor of Management with Udine University, where he serves as scientific coordinator of the Laboratory for Research in Economics and Management. He is also Head of the Board of Net Europe IT & Public Administration EEIG, a public-private, Italian-Slovenian joint venture delivering e-health solutions. Vincenzo Carrieri is Associate Professor of Public Economics at the University of Salerno. He received his PhD from University of Calabria and a PhD specialization in Health Economics and Policy from the Swiss School of Public Health (SSPH+) in 2008. He is affiliated researcher at the Health, Econometrics and Data Group (HEDG) of the University of York and at the RWI-Research Network of the RWI-Leibniz Institute for Economic Research. His main research interests are in the fields of health economics, income inequality and applied microeconometrics with particular interests in the determinants of health, socio-economic inequalities in health and health care and the economics of risky behaviours. Bio:

Oriana Ciani is postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Exeter Medical School and contracted Research Fellow at CeRGAS Bocconi. She holds a MSc in Biomedical Engineering from Politecnico di Milano and postgraduate degree in Healthcare Management from Bocconi University. She received her PhD from the University of Exeter with a thesis focusing on the evaluation of surrogate end points in health technology assessment (HTA). Oriana’s research interests are centred on the use of evidence synthesis techniques to inform policy decisions and healthcare policy evaluation. She is member of the Italian Association of Health Economics (AIES), as well as HTAi, the International Association of Health Economics (iHEA), the International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcome Research (ISPOR), and the Italian Association of Clinical Engineers (AIIC). She is author of several publications in epidemiology, health services research, HTA and reviewer for many international academic journals.

Prof. Giorgio L. Colombo holds a position as Adjunct Professor of Organization Theory and Pharmacoeconomics at the Department of Drug Sciences and Scientific Coordinator of Postgraduate Master “Marketing Management in Pharmaceutical Industry – MAMAF” in University of Pavia. Besides his strong academic background, Prof Colombo has accumulated considerable experience in the economic analysis of health care systems and performed economic evaluations of health care programmes and technology assessments for pharmaceutical companies and Italian Authorities (Ministries of Health and of the Economy and Regional Health Authorities). He is also Scientific Director at the Consultant Group S.A.V.E. Studi Analisi Valutazioni Economiche Srl, Milan (www.savestudi.it). I am currently assistant professor (ricercatore confermato) at the Department of Economics and Management, University of Pavia where I teach Public Economics. I am External Member of the HEDG (Health, Econometrics and Data Group), Centre for Health Economics, University of York and Associate Researcher of Laboratory for Comparative Social Research, Higher School of Economics, Moscow (https://lcsr.hse.ru/en/Novi).
My main research interests are in health economics, population economics and applied microeconometrics.
In 2007 I was a visiting student in the Department of Human Health at the Agency for Healthcare Research Quality, Rockville, MD (US) where I carried out in-depth study of health insurance and the problems associated with adverse selection. In 2011 I was awarded a fellowship by the Centre for Health Economics at York University (UK) to work on the project “Flexible Working Conditions, Fixed-term Contracts and their Influence on Employee Psychological Well-being”.
From 2008 to 2010  in the Department of Biomedical Sciences and Human Oncology at Turin University, I contributed to the project “Towards a Formalin free Hospital” and was a member of the Technical Team of Health Technology Assessment at the San Giovanni Battista University Hospital- (Molinette) of Turin.
I have coordinated the project “The Impact of The North-South Gradient on the Informal Caregivers of Mental and Physical Health” financed by the Farmafactoring Foundation who, together with the Italian Association of Health Economics, in 2011, awarded me first prize for the best paper on health economics published internationally.

I have been working in HTA field since 2004, moving from participating in assessment teams (preparing reports for decision makers) to coordinate them. I am now in appraisal committees as member of all Veneto Region Commissions and Italian networks for HTA. Concerning my role as Health Care Manager, I have been responsible of Veneto Region Health Care Research management, dealing with high amount of resources and groups of persons coming from different fields (Research, Ministry,EU Commission,Industry…). As a result of this experience, I have been chosen to drive the change in CORIT, from being a Consortium in transplantation research  to become the Regional executive arm for Research.

Lara Gitto è professore associato di Economia Politica presso il Dipartimento di Economia dell’Università di Messina.
Ha conseguito il dottorato di ricerca in Economia Pubblica presso l’Università degli Studi di Catania con una tesi sulla qualità dell’assistenza ospedaliera, il Master in Economia Sanitaria presso l’Università degli Studi di Messina e il Master of Science in International Business and Economic Integration presso la University of Reading (UK). E’ laureata in Giurisprudenza ed ha conseguito l’abilitazione alla professione di avvocato.
E’ stata professore a contratto degli insegnamenti di “Economia Sanitaria”, “Economia Politica” e “Scienza delle Finanze” presso l’Università degli Studi di Messina, lecturer nell’ambito del corso di “Microeconomics” presso il Bachelor in Business Administration dell’Università di Roma “Tor Vergata, e docente di “Economia Sanitaria” e “Valutazione Economica in Sanità” in Master di I e II livello e in corsi di formazione organizzati da Università ed enti sia pubblici che privati.
E’ componente di gruppi di ricerca nazionali ed internazionali e di numerose società scientifiche.
E’ autore di circa 130 pubblicazioni scientifiche ed è referee per riviste scientifiche internazionali e nazionali. E’ stata relatore, chair e reviewer in oltre cento conferenze nazionali ed internazionali.

Enrico Ivaldi has the tenure of the course of Statistics at the Department of Political Science of the University of Genoa. PhD in Applied Economics and Quantitative Methods (XVII cycle) at the University of Genoa, he has participated in several national research projects (Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education, and the National Agency for Regional Health Services.
Author of over fifty scientific publications, his research interests lie in Applied Economics and Social Statistics.
He is in the editorial board of Journal of Contemporary Management, Eastern European Business and Economics Journal, and in the book series Percorsi di Scienze Economiche e Sociali, and he is a reviewer for journals such as Social Indicator Research and International Journal of Health Geographics.

Claudio Jommi is Associate Professor of Management at the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Novara. He is also Scientific Coordinator of the Pharmaceutical Observatory at Cergas (Centre for Research on Health and Social Care Management), Bocconi University, and Professor at Bocconi School of Management, Public Management and Policy Department, where he Coordinates the Specialisation in Pharmaceuticals and Medical Technologies, Master in International Health Management Economics and Policy (Mihmep). He is President of the Italian Health Economics Association.
He has been visiting professor at Essec Business School, Cergy (Paris), at the Herivan K. Haub School of Business, St Joseph University, Philadelphia (USA), at the Andrija School of Public Health, Zagreb and the University of Claude Bernard Lyon 1 (European Market Access University Diploma).
His research activity is focused on Pharmaceutical Economics, Policy and Management, Health Technology Assessment and Decision Making in Health Care.

Bio:

Daniele Mascia (PhD) is an Associate Professor of Organizational Theory and Management with specialization in health care policy and management. His research activity is intended to develop new theory and contribute to practice in the field of health care management. Dr Mascia teaches health care management, organizational behavior and innovation management to postgraduate and undergraduate students, and regularly advises public and private organizations in the health sector (hospitals, biopharmaceutical companies, and medical device manufacturers). Dr Mascia received a number of awards and distinctions from, among others, the Health Care Management Division of Academy of Management. He is member of the Academy of Management and the European Group for Organization Studies, and is on the editorial board for the Health Care Management Review journal. Daniele is evaluator of research projects and individual profiles on behalf of the Italian Ministry of Research and Education (MUR) and the Swiss National Foundation for Scientific Research. Dr Mascia has held a number of visiting fellowships, working at various academic institutions among which The University of Sydney Business School, the KTH Royal Institute of Technology (Stockholm), the Chalmers University of Technology (Gothenburg), and the University of Lugano USI.

Bio:

Michela Meregaglia is a research fellow in Health Economics at CeRGAS (Centre for Research on Health and Social Care Management), Bocconi University. Her main areas of research include economic evaluation of healthcare programmes, health technology assessment (HTA), cost of illness analyses, quantitative methods in health economics (modelling, decision analysis, discrete choice experiments).
She is currently enrolled in a PhD program in Health Economics at London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (UK). Her thesis is about outcomes, costs, quality of life and patient’s preferences associated with post-treatment follow-up programs in head and neck cancer.

Occupation: she has been working, as health economist, to research projects on: the analysis and assessment of local policies in cancer care, mainly focused on quality, appropriateness and cost of care; evidence-based clinical practice guidelines elaboration; administrative data analysis for healthcare assessment (performance and outcomes indicators); protocol design, data collection planning and analysis of cost-effectiveness evaluations within RCTs; cost analysis within clinical epidemiology studies (observational cohorts); health care costs modelling methods. She was collaborating with the Piedmont Region for the development of the Health Technology Assessment activity at regional level and presently with the hospital Evidence Based Medicine group and the HTA-Drugs group. She has teaching experiences at university level and training in: health economics; healthcare organization management; and epidemiology. She has published 56 papers in peer reviewed journals.

I am associate professor in Economic Poicy at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice and research fellow of Netspar, the international Network for Studies on Pension, Ageing and Retirement based in Tiburg, the Netherlands. I am director of the Economics PhD at my university. My research interests are in health and ageing economics, as well as in household finance. I have been involved for many years in the design of the Economic part of the Survey on Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe (SHARE). Claudio Pinto is a post doc at University of Salerno. He received is Ph.D. in Economics of Public Sector from University of Salerno where obtained his B.D. in Economics. Bio:
Dr Elena Pizzo is a Senior Health Economist in the Department of Applied Health Research at UCL. She holds a PhD in Economics and Management and an MSc in Economics and Management of Health Care Services. Her main research area includes economic evaluation of health care technologies and interventions, clinical decision analysis and, more generally, measurement of health and distributional aspects of health policy. She has expertise in health economic evaluations of complex interventions, particularly in primary care, prevention, dementia and maternity care. In her previous post in Italy she investigated the causes of the high rate of Caesarean Sections during delivery and compared the costs and effects of alternative delivery methods. She also undertook an economic evaluation of a Regional Colorectal Cancer Screening Program. She is currently involved in the economic evaluation of a new model of treatment for patients with dementia.

Silvana Robone is Associate Professor at University of Insubria, Varese, Italy and Adjoint Lecturer at Bocconi University. She is also external affiliate to the Dondena Centre of Research on Social Dynamics (Bocconi University) and the Health, Econometrics and Data Group (University of York). Previously, she worked as Assistant Professor at the Department of Economics, University of Bologna (2012-2014) and as Research Fellow at the Centre for Health Economics, University of York (2006-2012). Her education includes two Masters awarded by Bocconi University, (one in Economics and one in Economics and Management of Public Utilities) and a Ph.D. in Economics awarded jointly by the University of York and the University of Bologna, under the supervision of Prof. A.M Jones, Prof. N. Director of CERGAS and Associate Professor in Public Administration at Università Bocconi, Milan (IT). She is Professor at SDA Bocconi School of Management. She graduated in Business Administration at the Bocconi University and holds an MSc in Health Services Management and PhD in Public Health both from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, University of London, UK. Her main areas of research are: health care management, economic analysis of health care services, health policy and HTA. More recently, Rosanna focused on medical devices, a class of health technologies whose assessment is more challenging than other technologies such as drugs. She has been the leader of a just concluded large, three-year EU-funded project “MedtecHTA”, that has highlighted how to improve methods for assessing medical devices.
Rosanna serves as advisor for the Ministry of Health of Italy and is member of the Board of Director of ISPOR. She also serves other several public and private entities in Italy and abroad.

Assistant Professor of Healthcare Management and Policy at Department of Policy Analysis and Public Management at Bocconi University. Since 2012, she has been the Coordinator of Health Economics and HTA Research Area at the Centre for Health and Social Care Management (CERGAS) at Bocconi University. Bio:
Francesca Zantomio is currently Associate Professor of Public Economics and the Ca’ Foscari University of Venice and External Affiliate at the Health Econometrics and Data Group (HEDG), University of York. Her research fields spans from health economics to the analysis of social care and welfare benefit provision, with a focus on older poeple. She has conducted research on the targeting of disability benefits, disability measurement in surveys, the measurement of inequalities in health and healthcare access, the evaluation of policy interventions in the area of income support and the distributional analysis of public intervention. More recently she has been studying the impact of health shocks on labour market outcomes and comorbidities in physical and mental health.
On these topics, she has published in the Journal of Health Economics, the Journal of the Royal Statistical Society (Series A, Statistics in Society), the Oxford Bulletin of Economics and Statistics, Fiscal Studies, Economica, and others. She has been acting as referee for the Journal of Health Economics, the Italian Journal of Health Policy, the Review of Income and Wealth and Research in Economics.
